Municipal Ward Boundaries To Change

posted by Randy Donauer    |   December 9, 2011 22:42

The current boundaries came into effect in 2009, and under The Cities Act each ward has to have roughly the same population. However, a recent review discovered population shifts outside legal limits in three wards.  The Municipal Wards Commission will establish new ward boundaries, to be in effect for the Municipal/School Boards elections to be held on October 24, 2012Aside from population trends, the Commission must also contemplate any special diversity or community of interest present in the ward.

The Municipal Wards Commission will hold a public consultation meeting on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. in Committee Room “E”, City Hall. Saskatoon citizens are invited to attend this meeting to offer their input on their city voting boundaries. Written submissions are preferred; however, attendees are free to give oral presentations. All public input will be considered by the Commission.

Written submissions, which must include the writer’s name and address, should be forwarded to the City Clerk’s Office, City Hall, 222 – 3rd Avenue N, Saskatoon SK, S7K 0J5, or via email to city.clerks@saskatoon.caOnce drafted, the options will be presented at a public hearing to be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in Committee Room “E”.  A final report is expected by Monday, February 6, 2012.
