City of Saskatoon Response to Privacy Commissioner

In light of recent statements from the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner, the City of Saskatoon is compelled to underline what its role is under The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

  • The City is not opposed to releasing information.  Many of the public criticisms leveled at the City are based on differences of opinion about the proper interpretation of the Act.
  • Certain documents related to proceedings are not released because they are part of an ongoing land transaction or other sensitive negotiations that are not yet complete. So, the issue is a matter of timing and not a desire to withhold documents or other information.
  • Two National Freedom of Information Audits conducted by the Canadian Newspaper Association rated the City of Saskatoon as a leader in information sharing among large Canadian cities.

The City’s response to the Privacy Commissioner’s most recent review reports are posted on the City’s website, for more information click this link.
